Following all the winter work things didn't quite go to plan at Croft. Problems started early with the car running at 113db - 7db beyond the legal limit. This prompted urgent calls to Stu at AAS in Newburn who did an amazing job of building a rear silencer box which we managed to get down to the track by 1.30pm. Having erred on the safe side we were now producing a very muted 96.5db.
Out on track we then experienced a fuel starvation problem which resulted in a quick connection to the tow truck and back to the pits. This was quickly resolved and the potential of the new engine was finally experienced - however this only lasted a very few laps when the exhaust appeared to blow somewhere up near the back of the engine. The day was over.
It later transpired that the problem was in fact a lamda sensor having blown out of the down pipe from the manifold. This is now sorted and we're trying to organise some track time prior to the first event on May 17.
All in all the events seemed to highlight the phrases 'This is what Test Day's are for' and 'That's Racing' - both of which seem a bit more bearable in hindsight than they did at the time!
