The first outing of the season seemed to be starting well. After a rainy start to the day the sun came out in time for qualifying. The car performed well and after a couple of laps to get back in the groove I got into the 1.39s without pushing too hard. This put me 7th on the grid and a good oportunity for a decent finish.
That just about concludes the good news although I did get off the line well considering the now very wet conditions. What follows is a cut down version of events - hopefully without allowing the anger I felt at the time to come through. As I say I got a good start, passing the Ginetta in front and heading down to the first corner keeping to the left. However, Rob Barnes in his Corsa seemed to think keeping even further left (that would be half off the track) offered an opportunity to pass round the outside of a corner with 3 or 4 cars on his inside, in the wet... I disn't think so either! Anyway, not to be deterred and when it dawned that there was never going to be anywhere to go, rather than have his own incident he performed the popular American traffic cop 'pit manouvre' - shoving the nose of his car into my back wheel until I spectacularly flipped round smacking side-on into the armco - race over!
Not sure when I'll be back on track as basically everything on the right side of the car is buggered - sadly apart from the obvious brakes, suspension, wheels, the rear axle, oil cooler and radiator are all beyond repair. Its a case of fingers crossed regarding the gearbox - the hope is that when the driveshaft punched through it absorbed enough of the impact to save the diff and gearbox internals. Obviously I've now missed Knockhill but will be aiming to get down to Cadwell if we can source the more specialist parts and get some kind of test done before making the trip.
