This was my first outing with the new specialist drive shafts from America. Qualifying went well and in the race I had an excellent start making up about four places; that is until, on entering the chicane for the first time I was clipped on the rear quarter by Rob Barnes is his Corsa. This sent the car flying onto the autocross track and all the start line places quickly surrendered. The chase was on and the car was running very well allowing me to tag onto the battle between Mick Starkey and Gavin Lee. After a couple of laps I took advantage of the greater torque of the Beetle and passed them both coming out of the hairpin. However this small victory was short lived as, with one lap to go the nearside outer CV joint let go - when flat out going into Barcroft! So much for the wonder shafts from America! Mick and Gavin came streaming past and I limped home for, in the end, a disappointing 8th.
